Social-Emotional Question Cards

$2.00

Conversation starters for big and small feelings: a deck of open-ended questions in three levels, from PreK to 5th grade.

What’s inside

  • 10 pages: a cover with how-to and nine ways to play, and 9 pages of cards (6 cards a page, 54 cards in all)
  • Level 1, PreK to kindergarten (ages 4–6): “How do you feel right now?”, “What helps you feel calm?”
  • Level 2, grades 1–2 (ages 6–8)
  • Level 3, grades 3–5 (ages 8–11)

Skills it builds

  • Naming feelings and emotional vocabulary
  • Empathy and perspective-taking
  • Listening and taking turns
  • Confidence talking about feelings

How to use

Print and cut along the dotted lines (laminate to reuse). Pick the level that fits your child; the age range is at the top of each page. Take turns drawing a card and answering; there are no wrong answers. Try a question jar, a family-dinner round, charades answers, beat-the-timer or a question of the day. Great for morning meeting, calm-down corners, car rides and counseling. Prep time: 5 minutes.

You’ll need

Scissors. A laminator and a jar are optional.

From a pediatric OT

Made by Ms. Aviv, a licensed pediatric occupational therapist, and used with real kids before it reaches you. Print-ready PDF on US Letter (prints on A4 with “fit to page”).
